Simulation Based Machining Process in Advanced Manufacturing

<Abstract>

The demand for energy saving has recently increased with the aim at carbon neutral in the sustainable society. In manufacturing, the high efficiency and the reduction of material loss have been required for achievement of energy saving. On the other hand, advanced materials have been applied to control various functions in sophisticated devices with progress in material development. Although many manufacturing processes have been performed to machine the advanced materials, cutting still plays a large role in efficient and controllable manufacturing. The cutting process should be designed and controlled for stable production without any process troubles. Because the process simulation has recently been popular concerning digital manufacturing, the simulation should be used effectively in the process. In this presentation, the general advantages of the cutting simulation are described to understand and optimize the cutting process. Then, the novel whirling process is shown to control the machining process, as an effective use of simulation. Then, some applications of the cutting simulation are shown to understand the cutting process. Finally, a concept of the intelligent machining process is discussed with AI and simulation techniques.
